Search features and functionality
Our search tools are built to find matches across the country, ensuring that if a man has a history in another city, you’ll be the first to know.
MASTERING CROWDSOURCED SEARCH
Our primary search tool relies on the collective knowledge of women across the nation. When you search, the app prioritizes what is happening in your immediate area while keeping a wide lens on the rest of the country.
How to search and filter (expand)
You can search for a man by entering his first name into the main search bar on the feed.
To narrow down a long list of results, use the filter button to search by a specific city or a targeted age range.
Your results will display based on proximity, showing you the posts closest to your current location first.
Because men travel and move, the search continues past your local area to show nationwide matches from closest to farthest.
If your search returns no results, it means he hasn't been posted yet; this is your cue to create a post and ask the community for the tea yourself.
Please remember that Tea is a U.S.-only platform, so search results and posts are limited to the United States.
UNDERSTANDING DIFFERENT SEARCH TOOLS
We offer different types of searches depending on the information you have. Knowing which tool to use is key to getting the right results.
Crowdsourced vs. Safety tools (expand)
The main search bar is for "Crowdsourced Search," which only pulls from posts made by other users on the platform.
Searching by a phone number is not part of the crowdsourced search; this feature is exclusive to our "FBI Girly" safety tools.
To run a phone number lookup or a formal background check, you must use the detective icon in the navigation bar.
Combining a name search on the feed with a phone number lookup in the safety tools is the best way to get a full 360-degree view of who you're dealing with.
TROUBLESHOOTING SEARCH ISSUES
We want our search to be fast and accurate, but sometimes technology needs a quick reset or a manual adjustment.
Fixing search errors (expand)
If you find that you've run out of searches because results are appearing too quickly or hitting a limit, don't sweat it.
Reach out to our Support team and mention that you've hit a search limit; we’ll look into it and make things right for you.
If you aren't seeing expected results, double-check that your filters aren't too restrictive (like a very small radius or narrow age range).
Ensure you are searching by first name only, as the system is optimized to match based on the most common identifying information.
