Phone Number Lookup

Phone number lookup

Stop guessing who's behind the text, and use our lookup tool to get information on your date before you meet them.

USING THE PHONE NUMBER LOOKUP

Finding out who is really behind a text or a call is essential for your safety. We’ve made it simple to check the records on any number you’ve been given.

How to run a lookup (expand)
  • Tap the female detective icon in the app menu.

  • Enter the ten-digit phone number into the "Phone Number" lookup field.

  • Click Search to run the report.

  • You can also search the Tea Posts section using that same number to see if other users have flagged it.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR RESULTS

We pull our information from massive public data sources to give you the most accurate picture possible. Because we don't generate this data ourselves, we can't change what the records show, but we can help you interpret them.

 Interpreting the information (expand)
  • If the name in the results doesn't match, it usually means that person owned the number before the man you are searching for.

  • Public records may take time to update because phone numbers are frequently recycled by different carriers.

  • You can combine a name and a phone number to run a full background check for a more detailed safety report.

  • The purple history button in the top right corner allows you to refer back to any of your previous searches instantly.

SPOTTING A "BURNER": WHAT VoIP MEANS

If you run a search and come up empty, it is can be a major red flag regarding a person's transparency.

Identifying VoIP and "burner" numbers (expand)
  • When a search returns zero information, it typically means the person is using a VoIP service.

  • VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol, which is technology that allows calls to be made over the internet, like Google Voice, rather than using a traditional cell provider.

  • These services are commonly used to create "burner numbers" or temporary accounts to keep a person's real identity hidden.
