User Safety
Safety is at the heart of who we are, so it’s no surprise we take the protection of our users seriously. We are proud to give a voice to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, or other forms of abuse. We want to make sure users who are still in active danger get the help they need, and those who are safe can support others facing similar situations.
However, some content is just not helpful or appropriate. Any content that depicts disturbingly graphic content is not allowed, and we don’t allow sharing content that promotes or glorifies weaponry - even if that weapon is legal in the United States.
VIOLENCE
There is a difference between sharing content that could be considered violent to help warn others, and sharing content that is meant to shock or disturb. At Tea, everyone should feel secure. That means we absolutely do not allow violent or graphic imagery, or celebrating weapons of any kind. Many of our users have a history of violence used against them, and we need to ensure they feel a sense of safety in our community.
Violations include:
- Images of stabbings, serious wounds, or dismemberment
- Posts that detail, depict, or describe using a gun or another weapon against someone
However, you can post:
- Images related to domestic violence incidents, including bruises
- Content depicting specific messages of threats as part of a safety disclosure
CONSEQUENCES
Let’s keep each other safe. If you talk about weapons, we’ll give you a reminder not to, but any disturbing or graphic content will result in an immediate deactivation.
IMMINENT THREATS
Sometimes our users will confide in the community about serious, credible threats against them. We take these statements very, very seriously, and we will act immediately where a real danger may be present.
Some situations where we may intervene:
- Threats of hurting you or someone you know
- Posts that indicate someone may commit a mass act of violence, such as a mass shooting
CONSEQUENCES
We want to help you, so we will always provide resources and support to our community members who need it. However, in cases where the threats seem imminent, we will report and cooperate with the proper authorities.
