Body Image and Physical Safety

Body Image and Physical Safety

We know women face constant pressure and judgment about their appearances, whether from society or from themselves. This can lead to serious struggles like disordered eating and body dysmorphia. These are important issues that our community absolutely can and should discuss.

However, we have to keep these discussions safe. That means we don’t allow romanticizing or promoting eating disorders or the culture that surrounds them. We’re here to support recovery and health discussion, not encourage harmful behaviors.

DISORDERED EATING AND BODY DYSMORPHIA

Tea Partiers are welcome, and even encouraged, to share their stories of recovery and overcoming an eating disorder or body dysmorphia. Your experiences help others! What we can’t share is the glorification of anorexia or bulimia, or methods for achieving an unhealthy weight.

This includes:

  • Sharing dangerous methods of losing weight, such as starvation or extreme restriction
  • Providing others information on how to obtain specific weight loss products, or sharing websites for prescription weight loss medication, such as compounding websites
  • Promoting or sharing information on unsafe “back alley” procedures, such as illegal BBLs or black market fillers

CONSEQUENCES

If you’re struggling, we may reach out to privately share resources where you can obtain help. Otherwise, we’ll remind you of our policies. If you repeatedly promote harmful content, you will eventually be deactivated.

PHYSICAL SAFETY

At Tea, we prioritize health. We encourage our community to discuss proven, healthy habits like nutrition and exercise. However, we don’t allow the discussion or promotion of unscientific, unproven, or potentially harmful medical or health advice.

This includes:

  • Promoting "miracle cures” for serious medical conditions, such as suggesting specific vegetable diets cure cancer
  • Advocating for unqualified sources, like herbalists, as a replacement for licensed medical care
  • Promoting or discussing unsafe home methods for abortion or treatment for other serious health conditions

CONSEQUENCES

Because these topics are complex, we’ll warn you and send a reminder first. However, subsequent failure to follow this rule will result in your permanent ban.
