How moderation works at Tea

Overview of moderation at Tea

At Tea, we've built a space where women can speak freely, but free speech isn't a license to cause harm. To keep our community free from toxicity, we use a mix of technology and human oversight to watch the door. Here is exactly what happens when content is posted.

USER REPORTING PROCESS

While we have automated systems that scan for obvious red flags, such as inappropriate pictures, we rely most on you. You're the heart of our community, and you know the "vibe" better than any algorithm.

Reporting is 100% anonymous. The person you report will never know it was you.

 How to report (expand)

If you see something that breaks our rules, such as a minor on the platform or someone sharing another person's private information, hit the report button immediately. You can access it by using the three dot menu on a post, and select "report".

When you report, try to provide as much detail as possible. This helps our team prioritize the most urgent safety issues first.

MODERATION REVIEW

Once a report is filed, it enters our review queue. Unlike other platforms, we believe sensitive conversations between women require human context. Our moderators and staff look for nuance, distinguishing between someone venting about a tough breakup, and someone crossing the line into targeted harassment.

Reports involving safety, such as threats or self-harm, are escalated to the top of our queue for quick review. This is why providing detail in your report is so helpful.

If you haven't reviewed our Community Guidelines recently, please do. We're not here to judge you, only to ensure all members of the community are following the rules.

MODERATION OUTCOMES

We believe in "firm but fair" for our Community Guidelines, and we hold our users to certain standards.

 Minor policy violations (expand)

For minor slip-ups, such as accidentally not removing someone's full name from your post, we'll usually remove the infracting content, and send you a reminder of our community guidelines.

 Major policy violations (expand)

If a post is harmful or violates a serious safety standard, it will be deleted. For zero tolerance policies, such as inauthentic users, or threatening violence, we'll deactivate your account immediately.

Our goal is to keep the community healthy. While you can always reach out if you think we got it wrong, we prioritize the safety of the collective.
